Genealogy up to Jesus
I am certainly not asserting that we are in any way decendants of Jesus.
I am however using the geneology as a timeline to estimate the approximate
generation in which we are from Adam. Given that Jesus was the 64th
generation from Adam, I approximated a new generation every 40 years.
This approximation changes, of course, within the late 1900's due to
steriod use in milk products. So I calculate that my son should be within
the 114th generation from Adam, or 50 generations away from Uncle Jesus.
The following genealogical chart includes most of the names mentioned
in the Old Testament. All those names where family relationships are
reasonably specific are included. (At the very end are lists of vague
references that were not included.)
Each line usually represents an individual person. The first number
seen is the 'Generation Number' from Adam. The name is next; if alternate
spellings appear in the Bible, they are then shown, with a brief reference.
Next, brief notes may be included about the person; this may include
dates of existence. For the first 20 generations, these dates are counted
in years from Adam's beginning ('Yr 0'); later generations' dates refer
to our present calendar. Finally, Scriptural reference is often given
for the source of the genealogical placement.
If the mate (wife, concubine, husband, etc) is known, and referred
to in the Bible, that mate's name is listed below the person in italicized
print. Children's names are below, shifted over one space and with the
'Generation Number' being one higher, because they are one more generation
separated from Adam (who is at generation #1).
A second mate would be listed after all the children, grand - children,
and later progeny of the first mate were listed.
The direct genealogy of Jesus is indicated by bold names.

In our modern Bibles, it seems to be true that Matthew's
genealogy may be missing a few generations. It had certainly
already left out confirmed generations 40, 41, 42 as noted
above. If none are missing from here on, that means that
about 562 years passed during 12 generations (#52 to #64).
This means an average of 48 year old new fathers! (at that
time, the average whole lifetime was about 40 yrs.)
